One of Michelle’s favourite photographs, taken in 1953, depicts eight friends of her mother and has provided a continual source of inspiration. Working with this image has given her time at the kitchen table with her 'aunties,' all of whom were missed after her mother’s premature death.

 

Originally titled 'aunties', the series was renamed when she discovered that '8 annas' is a synonym for mixed race
